UK Immigration Cap To Be Introduced On Monday

The introduction of the Immigration Cap will realise a pledge made by the Conservatives during the General Election campaign to cap the number of non EEA nationals coming to the UK each year. Prior to the General Election David Cameron (Prime Minister & leader of the Conservative Party), said that under a Conservative Government net Immigration to the UK would be in the ‘tens of thousands, rather than the hundreds of thousands’. Following the election the Conservatives formed a coalition Government with the Liberal Democrats and announced formal intentions to introduce the Immigration Cap in the Coalition Agreement. The Liberal Democrats have always been against the idea of an arbitrary Immigration Cap therefore there presence in the Government may help to water down some of the more aggressive proposals.

Many in the business community have said that an arbitrary cap would severely damage the UK economy at a time when great strain is already being placed on the system.
