Jobs Outlook Survey suggests Employers turn to Agency staff following Spending Review

Jobs Outlook Report Highlights

  • 22% of employers said they expect to increase their temporary workforce in the next 3 months
  • 28% said they were planning to take on more agency workers over the next 12 months
  • 83%of employers indicated that their workforces would stay the same over the next 12 months
  • 73% said their permanent workforce was likely to stay static

Speaking further to the recent Jobs Outlook results, Roger Tweedy, the REC’s Director of Research said that “The upward trend in both short and long term use of temporary staff confirms that employers view flexible resourcing options as the best way of gearing themselves up for economic growth. It will be next year that the full impact of the Spending Review will be felt – not only by public sector employers but also be private sector businesses who supply into the public sector. As a result, it is not surprising that employers are showing increased caution in terms of hiring permanent staff. Temporary assignments will also provide valuable experience and routes into employment for job-seekers – including public sector workers who are looking to make the transition into the private sector.\”

Reed says Job Opportunities at highest level in 2010

Recently the Reed Job Index showed that the number of job opportunities posted on the site increased to its highest level so far in 2010. The increase shows a jump from 99,223 in October 2010 to 105,107 in November 2010, a 5,942 increase in the number of vacancies.

The Managing Director of Reed.co.uk, Martin Warnes, said that \”Private sector demand for new workers is accelerating, and has spread across a wide range of areas. And while salaries remain below December 2009\’s level, last month\’s salary decline for new jobs has been reversed. Sustained economic recovery cannot be taken for granted, but the way employers are recruiting and building for the future is certainly encouraging.\”
