REC Responds To Findings Of Immigration Cap Report

The Chief Executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), Kevin Green, said that “With the Government’s proposed cap on migrant workers from outside of the European Union, it is going to be very difficult for the private sector to grow at a fast enough rate to get the UK’s labour market improving when there is still a palpable need for suitably skilled workers. The Government should therefore reconsider its plan to put an artificial cap on immigration while legitimate demands exist. The huge imminent public sector cuts will put more pressure on private businesses to create employment opportunities.”

The temporary Immigration Cap is already making it very difficult for UK businesses to get the skilled workers they need, due to official and unofficial skill shortages in Engineering, Information Technology, Healthcare & Accountancy / Finance. The Government is due to implement a permanent Immigration Cap in April 2011.
