HMRC Trial Offshore IT Application Development

The HMRC have asked Capgemini, the organisations Information Technology supplier, to arrange the off-shoring work. Following the 18 month trial period the HMRC will reassess whether the trial has been a success and if so will look to off-shore more application development work.

Commenting on the announcement an HM Revenue and Customs spokesman said that “We see this as an opportunity to dip our toe in the water and have a look at what sort of cost savings we can make. By having a look at this pilot we can see whether some of the software development work can be done outside of the UK – it\’s a chance for us to see if we can do it more widely. We are aware of the cost of IT and we are always looking to try to drive it down, this is another tool we may be able to use.\”
