The UK Border Agency (UKBA) considers many engineering roles to be officially in shortage in the UK, especially those within the Oil, Gas and Electrical Engineering sectors.
The following table sets out the current Engineering Shortage Occupations.

If you possess skills considered to be in shortage our Consultancy Partners will be interested in sponsoring you on a Tier 2 visa (formerly UK Work Permit). Tier 2 General Visas;
Are Initially approved for 3 years, but may be extended for a further 2 years
May be secured within 1 – 4 weeks depending upon your situation
Qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain after 5 years (Permanent Residence)
