Google Launch ‘Google Play’ in bid to rival Apple’s iTunes

Internet giant Google has re-launched its online store in an attempt to take on Apple’s iTunes. Google’s previous Android Market online store has not been as popular as anticipated.

Currently, it is thought that around 25 billion ‘apps’ have been downloaded from iTunes; nearly double the 13 billion Google says have been downloaded from their Market store.

‘PLAY’, the new online store catapulted by Google, is hoped will attract buyers away from iTunes with a new sleeker appearance.

The new-look web-store will allow smartphone users to purchase e-books, music and films, all from one vicinity. It will also feature across laptops and computers, as well as phones and tablets.

Previously, buyers had complained that the old Android Market web store, launched three years ago, was confusing as it required you to visit different sites to purchase music, films and e-books.
Google were also worried that the old name deterred people from visiting the site if they didn’t have an android phone.

Android is now the world’s most popular mobile software, currently used in HTC, Motorola and Samsung phones, however Apple still offers 100,000 more apps for iOS users than those using an Android phone.
