Skill Shortage Doctors

At Commonwealth Contractors we partner with Tier 2 Licensed Healthcare Consultancies & Associated Trusts who are crying out for senior Doctors, especially those at Consultant Level. If you’re a Non EEA Doctor & you wish to work in the UK Commonwealth Contractors can help!

If you possess skills considered to be in shortage (see Skill Shortage Occupations below) our Consultancy Partners will be interested in sponsoring you on a Tier 2 visa (formerly UK Work Permit). Consultancy employment is a fantastic alternative to NHS Trust employment as it provides:

  • Employment Flexibility: Our Partners are prepared to offer either a 3 year ‘Standard’ OR ‘Multiple Entry’ Tier 2 Visa (see below for details). During that time you can work at as many different site locations as you wish! Consultancy Partners cover all employer related visa processing fees (£2,500).
  • Fantastic Remuneration: Outstanding remuneration packages are offered to those with skills greatly in demand in the UK.
  • Claimable Business Expenses: As a non EEA National it may be possible to claim expenses such as Accommodation, Flights, Government Visa Processing Fees, Travel to & from the Work Site, Subsistence, Telecoms, Postage & Stationary etc
  • One off Visa Fees: NHS Trusts normally offer short term Tier 2 Visas (3 - 6 months at a time). If you wish to extend the visa, transfer to alternative employment or return to the UK at a future date you will need to submit a fresh Tier 2 application & pay the processing fee again. At Commonwealth Contractors out Consultancy Partners apply for 3 year ‘Multiple Entry’ Tier 2 Visas. Doing this can save you significant visa processing fees!

Single Entry Vs Multiple Entry Tier 2 Visas

Many Consultant Level Doctors come to the UK each year to undertake short term (3-6 month) assignments.

If you are sponsored by an NHS Trust for a short term assignment the Trust will gain a short term (3-6 month) Certificate of Sponsorship, which will allow you to secure a 3-6 month Tier 2 Visa. Each time you apply for a Tier 2 visa you must pay the visa submission fee for you and your dependents (where required), attend a biometrics appointment in person & wait for approval (1-5 weeks required). The following year if you secure a 3-6 month assignment with another NHS Trust you will have to go through the whole process all over again! This can be expensive and time consuming.

If you are sponsored by a Tier 2 Licensed Healthcare Consultancy the employer will be prepared to sponsor a 3 year ‘Multiple Entry’ Certificate of Sponsorship, this will allow you to secure a 3 year ‘Multiple Entry’ Tier 2 visa. The advantage here is that you only have to pay one visa submission fee, attend one biometric appointment & wait 1-5 weeks once for a Tier 2 approval. You can come and go as many times as you wish without having to secure a new visa. When the consultancy requires you on an assignment you can simply hop on a flight & be in the UK in a matter of days, rather than weeks! If you’re considering ‘Multiple Entry’ please be aware that:

  • ‘Multiple Entry’ visas do not count towards Permanent Residence
  • You cannot extend a Tier 2 ‘Multiple Entry’ visa. A fresh application must be made
