Tier 1 (Highly Skilled) Visa Applications
If you have a Masters Qualification or better & you earn a highly skilled wage you stand a very good chance of securing a Tier 1 General Visa (formerly Highly Skilled Migrant Programme).
To qualify for a Tier 1 (General) visa you need to gain 75 points from 4 points scoring categories and satisfy the English Language & Maintenance Requirements. Once approved a Tier 1 Visa will allow you to work unrestricted for an initial period of 3 years, following which time it may be possible to gain a 2 year extension and work towards Permanent Residence after 5 years.
Canadian Nationals qualify fully against the English Language Requirement (Canadian Passport required) and due to a relatively good exchange rate it is not that difficult to validate the Maintenance Requirement (£2,800 required roughly equates to $4,900 Canadian).

Tier 2 (Skilled) Visa Applications
If you’re a skilled Healthcare or IT Professional you may be able to secure a Tier 2 visa (formerly UK Work Permit) to work in the UK. UK Ancestry Visa Applications
If you are a Canadian citizen over the age of 17 with a Grandparent born in the UK you may be able to secure a UK Ancestry Visa. Once approved an Ancestry Visa will allow you to work in the UK unrestricted for a period of up to 5 years, after which time you can apply for Permanent Residence.
