Alternatives to Sponsor Licensing

Alternatives to Sponsor Licensing Gaining a Tier 2 License and Sponsoring workers from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) may not always be the best option for a business. In certain circumstances it may be better to outsource work to a suitable Supplier in the form of a Managed Project. The Supplier then takes on responsibility for the work delivered & the individuals assigned to the project.

At Commonwealth Contractors we partner with Tier 2 Licensed Healthcare & IT Consultancies prepared to take on Managed Projects & sponsor workers on Tier 2 Visas where required. By working with a Consultancy you can satisfy business requirements without having to invest in expensive new systems and processes.

Maybe there’s no need for you to secure a Sponsor License because you can satisfy requirements with individuals on Tier 1 (Highly Skilled) visas or Tier 5 (Working Holiday) Visas. If this is case our OISC Registered Immigration Partners can help you consider the long term implications of hiring staff on temporary visas.

Outsourcing Managed Projects

If your company has a requirement which involves temporary specialist skills (e.g. the development of a new custom Oracle Database) & you are finding it difficult to recruit Settled Workers (due to a skill shortage for example) you should investigate whether the work can be outsourced to a suitable Supplier before you embark upon an expensive Tier 2 License registration.

At Commonwealth Contractors we partner with Healthcare & IT Consultancies who specialise in delivering specialist consultancy services at cost effective rates. These Consultancies are skilled at working in niche areas and by partnering with one your business can:

  • Achieve Significant Cost Savings:
    • No need for expensive Tier 2 Licensing
    • No Internal changes to HR Systems or Processes required
    • Payroll costs borne by the Supplier
    • Supplier responsible for Tier 2 Work Rights (where required)
    • UK Border Agency audits the Supplier
  • Focus on Other Activities: Outsourcing can help management concentrate on serving the customer or improving other aspects of the business
  • Reduce Labour Costs: Hiring and training of permanent staff can be very expensive
  • Control Capital Costs: Projects can be scaled up / down or terminated depending upon the economic environment. Outsourcing converts fixed costs into variable costs

Employing Tier 1 (Highly Skilled) & Tier 5 (Working Holiday) Workers

Companies requiring skills that are found in abundance in the UK should hire Settled Workers. There is no need to offer ‘sponsorship’ to Non EEA nationals.

Settled workers can be UK Nationals with British Passports, other European Economic Area Nationals (e.g. French, German, Irish Nationals etc) or those with temporary Tier 1 (HSMP) or Tier 5 (Working Holiday) visas.

If you’re company is considering hiring a Tier 1 or Tier 5 visa holder you should consider the long term implications:

Tier 1 (Highly Skilled Visa)

A Tier 1 Visa is initially approved for 3 years, but may be extended for a further 2 years if the holder re-qualifies against Tier 1 criteria. If you are employing a Tier 1 visa holder you may consider helping the individual to secure an extension, after all if they are unable to qualify they will have to leave your employment.

At Commonwealth Contractors our OISC Immigration Partners can conduct a Tier 1 assessment and help to ensure that an individual fully meets the requirements.

Tier 5 (Working Holiday Visa)

Tier 5 (Youth Mobility) visa holders can work for up to two years on the status. If you wish to continue to employ the workers you will either need to secure a Tier 2 License or assist the individual in securing a Tier 1 visa.

Our OISC Immigration Partners can help with Tier 2 Licensing & Tier 1 (Highly Skilled) Visa applications.
